The reality is that there is always something needing done about here. January is my month for securely backing up all the pictures we have. To help with this I have installed a new computer and an external hard drive. Both of these have 500Gb hard drives complete with a raid system. This gives me 1 Terabyte of raid storage. The raid system comprises of two hard drives which are written to at the same time to give two identical hard drives or to use the jargon "a mirrored copy". This means if one drive fails no data should be lost. As another level of security all the images are backed up to DVD and kept off the premises. This is incase of a break in or fire. Let's just hope we never need to use them !! So our top tip this month is get yourself an external hard drive and backup your pictures, they aren't that expensive and you might be able to get one with automatic backup software.
